The Mercer consulting firm has published its ranking of cities where the quality of life is the best . Around 40 criteria are taken into account such as leisure, access to housing, the mild climate, spending on education … Since 2009, Vienna is at the top of the ranking. Was the city dethroned in 2012?
1 – Vienna
Vienna retains its title of city where life is good for the 4th year in a row. Its important leisure offer, its political and social stability, its cultural environment and its favorable climate offer the capital of Austria the first place in this ranking.
2 – Zurich
On the second step of the podium, we find Zurich. Since 2009, this city of Switzerland occupies the same place . Zurich has a very low crime rate and owns the international business center. Located around Lake Zurich and surrounded by mountains, the municipality enjoys a prosperous environment.
3 – Auckland
Auckland arrives on the last step of the podium, as in 2011. Nicknamed the City of Sails , this city of New Zealand has 50 beaches and nearly 50 volcanoes. A paradise for walkers.

6 – Düsseldorf
The second largest city in Germany, Düsseldorf has a favorable environment and a good network of urban infrastructures. The city thus arrives at the sixth position of the classification. Düsseldorf also has prestigious schools .
7 – Frankfurt
Frankfurt retains 7th place. Home to the European Central Bank , the German city also offers a rich cultural and intellectual life with its renowned museums and universities.
8 – Geneva
Geneva comes in 8th position. The Swiss city is the world capital of wealth management. The quality of life and its environment make Geneva the second largest city in Switzerland .
9 – Copenhagen
With its excellent transport network, quality accommodation and many leisure activities , Copenhagen ranks 9th in the top. The Danish capital presents the characteristics of the multicultural city with its cultural and architectural past.
10 – Bern and Sydney
Two cities share 10th place. Bern loses a position compared to 2011. The city offers a pleasant and has a historic center listed as World Heritage since 1983 . Sydney is distinguished by the quality of its infrastructure and prestigious universities . She wins a place compared to 2011.
On the side of the French cities, Paris ranks 29th and Lyon, 30th . Baghdad (Iraq) holds the title of the worst city in the world and ahead of Bangui (Central African Republic) and Port-au-Prince (Haiti).
